Mindfulness

Mindfulness, simply put, is to be present and fully aware in the moment without judgment.  It’s a practice of being completely conscious and in touch with ourselves and our surroundings. Mindfulness is accomplished through self-observation, self-inquiry and purposeful presence.

Our society breeds busyness, and we wear it as a badge of honor.  When we allow this busyness to take over we can get lost in a foggy numbness, unplugging from our personal and professional lives.  We lose touch with our own emotions and needs, as well as the needs of those around us; we might be physically present but our mind is either rehashing the past or worrying about the future.

Mindfulness is a powerful way to reduce stress and create well-being.  It wakes us up from the unconscious state than most of us reside and brings us to the present, where life is currently taking place in real time.

Mindfulness

What mindfulness is not:

Mindfulness isn’t new nor does it conflict with any religious beliefs or traditions.  It’s not a New Age, mysterious technique; rather, mindfulness is a practice that is thousands of years old.  Only recently has the western world, including western medicine, become “mindful” of its proven benefits in managing stress.
